Hair fashions change from day to day and unless your
hair grows at a rapid rate, there is no way to keep up
with short styles one day and long styles the next.
Variety is the spice of life (or so they say!) and what
better way to create a variety of looks than with your
hairstyle.
Extensions were first
used by the rich and famous in the 1980’s when those
crazy hairstyles could only be created with extra help.
In those days, they were seen as just a fad. Little did
they know that they would become so popular. You have
seen them on stars such as Jennifer Anniston, Jennifer
Lopez and Paris Hilton. You also may have noticed how
every contestant on The Swan have longer hair when it is
time for their reveal... it's hair extensions!
With hair extensions
you can add volume, color, or length with ease. You can
get hair extensions made from synthetic or human hair.
Personally, I will only use 100% human hair. It is the
best way to go. It gives you the ability to curl it
(synthetic hair will melt), perm it or change the color
if you would like. It looks the most natural and doesn't
have that fake looking shine like synthetic hair does.
Human hair is more expensive but well wo rth it.
Hair extensions are a
lot of fun. They make your hair look gorgeous. You can
wear Hairdreams for 4- 6 months,
and Cinderella Hair for 3-4 months, depending on the strength and
condition and texture of your hair. You may lose one here and
there which is normal, but overall, they last for quite
a while. You can swim in them, wear your hair up or down
and they still look completely natural. Except for your
friends, family and co workers who see you with short
hair one day and long the next, no one will know you
have them. Unlike the old "tracks", the hair extensions
of today look very natural. They move like your hair. They
are really amazing.
The method I use to
apply hair extensions is called strand by strand fusion
and it can be time consuming. It takes an average of 3
to 4 hours to apply extensions for a partial head which
is most common. Then it takes an additional 1 to 2 hours
for the cutting and styling process, depending on how
long it is and if you want layers, etc. A full head can
take 5-6 hours just to apply the extensions, then you
factor in the cutting and styling time. The process can
consume most of the day in cases of really thick,
shorter hair. So it is good to be prepared to spend a
lot of time sitting. Bring a good book or you can view
one of the movies from my DVD collection... or bring
one of your own. Bring something to snack on if you would like.
I usually order out for lunch and we take a break for
lunch when it looks like it will take most the day. Oh,
and we do have a soda
machine for your convenience.
Pricing
You will need a consultation to determine how
many strands are needed to achieve the look you want.
Then from there what I charge is as follows:
$50 for your
maintenance kit (kit includes recommended shampoo,
conditioner, leave-ins, and brush) this is NOT optional.
All clients must have a maintenance kit to take home
with them.
$50 application fee
plus $1.00 per strand applied.
$55 to cut and style
your extensions.
Plus the cost of
the hair which is also your non-refundable deposit (see
bottom of page).
If you choose
Cinderella Hair and splitting is involved, there is a
splitting fee which is $10 per 25 strands.
I use two brands of
hair extensions. HairDreams and Cinderella
Hair. HairDreams offers two qualities of hair extensions
for clients. One is HairDreams Basic quality hair,
which can be used only once. The second is HairDreams
Special quality hair which can be re-bonded and reused
for up to 2 years. (But please understand that the used
hair has to be shipped off and re-bonded in the factory
which takes a period of time. So if this sounds like
something you want to do, you would likely need two sets
of hair to alternate unless you want to go for a period
of time without your hair extensions.) While basic
HairDreams hair is high quality, HairDreams Special hair
is "virgin" hair that has never been chemically
processed or colored, making it the highest quality of
hair extensions available.

When I speak of
HairDreams bonds, I am speaking of a fine, transparent,
strong-adhesion bond, which is remarkably similar to the
natural molecular structure of hair. This means the
hair will not break or fall out. The bond is also easy
to remove, leaving your hair feeling and looking great.

Here on the left
is a picture of my client before we put in her
extensions. And then to the right is what her hair
looked like on the day we took her extensions out.
She worn her
extensions for a full 6 months.
HairDreams is also
naturally wavy to different
degrees making it hold curl very well and give great
body for straight styles, it can also be scrunched which
offers styling versatility. You can order curly hair,
but it costs more and has to be ordered 2 weeks in
advance. I highly recommend Hairdreams, especially
if you have fine hair. HairDreams offers different bond
sizes for different hair types. And for fine hair they
have small and super small bond sizes which are
fantastic. I can apply these hair extensions to even the
most cottony types of fine hair and not cause damage.
Cinderella Hair is very good quality hair, and is very
affordable. My understanding is that Cinderella Hair
Extensions are made from European remy hair and it is not virgin
hair (the highest quality).
Cinderella Hair Extensions also only come in one bond
size. However, the bond can be split into two strands
for the finer hair types, which can be cost effective,
but I do charge a fee for labor when splitting
the bonds. Cinderella Hair Extensions cannot be reused.
They come in three textures, fine, medium and yaki
(coarse). But not ALL the colors come in all textures,
which can be slightly limiting. Just another reason to
split the bond when dealing with finer hair types. And
Cinderella bonds are also a transparent, strong-adhesion
bond, that removes with ease.

Maintenance
There is maintenance involved when you get your
hair extensions. Taking care of your hair extensions at home is
key. During your consultation I will instruct you on all
the aspects of home care. I will give you a
Maintenance Check List to take home with you that gives
you an idea of the expectations I will have of you to
care for your hair extensions. I will also send you home
with a maintenance kit which contains all the
manufactures care products to keep your new strands
shiny and healthy. I would hope that after
you have spent so much money on your hair extensions
that you would do all you could to care for them. Your
efforts will decide how long you can wear them.
If you
are taking very good care and following all the
instructions, the less likely tangling will occur, which
can cause breakage, and the longer you will be able to
wear your hair extensions. It is ridiculous to
think you can wear them for 6 months and have no damage
what so ever. That is very unrealistic. There are not
many hair services that are completely damage free. In
this business we do what is called damage control. I
strive to do as little damage as possible. And I want to
give you all the instructions and tools you need to make
sure you have as little damage as possible. And of
course I apply the extensions with skill and care to
prevent damage also. I have many clients who now have
long hair after wearing their extensions.
You will still need to come in for haircuts and colors
and such, and after 3 months you will need what is called a
"tidy cut" to remove the hairs
from the bonds that have been shed. You may not know
this, but our hair sheds an average of 100 hairs a day.
And since these shed hairs are "stuck" in the bond, it
helps to prevent tangling if you periodically go in a
cut away the loose hairs.

Maintenance Check List click here.
Removal
Cost for removal of hair extensions is $65 per
hour and usually takes one to two hours. Unless you have
not been taking good care of your hair extensions and
tangling has occurred. If you have not come in for tidy
cuts and have not been brushing and sorting your hair
extensions like you should, you could have some areas
that are pretty tangled and that will slow down the
removal process and cost you more money. Just another
reason to be sure and take good care of your hair
extensions!
Deposits and Refunds
You must pay a deposit for the cost of the hair
which is non-refundable. Should you change your mind
before the application of your hair extensions, the
hair will be yours to keep and you can do whatever you
want with it. I do this because the companies I order
from have a "all sales are final" policy.
